RADIO ADVERTISING Q&A

Q & A: Is Radio Right for Your Business?
Below you’ll find a listing of the most common questions asked by new radio advertisers.

How much does it cost?
This question cannot be answered before you decide on your objectives and your time frame. We have advertisers who buy only one ad each week on only one of our stations. Over months and years, this actually gets results. But, for most advertisers, a combination of stations and/or multiple ads per week are more effective and faster acting on their sales line.

A reasonable rule of thumb is: The Minimal radio budget is about $300 per month and will require some time to get traction with listeners. Most of our advertisers spend more than this with the average budget being in the $700 to $1,000 per month range.

Who will write and produce my ads?
We do it for free. Many of our advertisers write and produce their own ads but that is their preference. Our sales people have an average of over 20 years experience helping advertisers with their radio campaigns right here in lakes area.

What station(s) should I be using?
The snappy answer is “They’re all good”. Actually, there are some differences in listening audience depending on format. And, some stations cost more than others as a result of audience size and advertiser demand. Your sales rep will help you decide on station selection.

How do I know radio will work for me?
You will prove it to yourself over time. Most of our advertisers are on the air year after year. For many, radio is their primary advertising.

What about newspaper?
Newspaper advertising has a definite place at the table. If you require long copy ads with lots of price and item information, newspaper may be important to you.
However, the local newspaper reach is limited with daily circulation in the 15,000 range, the BL Broadcasting stations reach over 50,000 listeners each month in our six county coverage area.

And, newspaper readers are aging with readership dropping precipitously over the last 20 years among readers under 50 years of age.

How long will my ads be?
90% of our advertisers use the :30 second ad length. Other ad lengths are available but 30s tend to be the most efficient use of your budget and hence the most popular.

I don’t know…radio is new to me, how can I be sure I’m making the right decision to use radio?
We know using any new media is a major decision for your business. We’ll be happy to put you in contact with our current advertisers so you can learn about their success directly from them.
